''Love and Desire'' (French: ''Le désir et l'amour'') is a 1951 French-Spanish drama film directed by Henri Decoin and Luis María Delgado and starring Martine Carol, António Vilar and Carmen Sevilla. It was based on the 1929 novel of the same title by Auguste Bailly.Goble p.735 It was shot at the Epinay Studios in Paris and on location in Madrid, Torremolinos and Malaga. The film's sets were designed by the art directors Julio Molina and René Renoux. Synopsis A French film crew are working on location in southern Spain. When the leading man refuses to swim across a river, his place is taken by a local man who is soon hired as a stuntman for the whole film. Henri Decoin
Henri Decoin (18 March 1890 – 4 July 1969) was a French film director and screenwriter, who directed more than 50 films between 1933 and 1964. He was also a swimmer who won the national title in 1911 and held the national record in the 500 m freestyle. He competed in the Swimming at the 1908 Summer Olympics – Men's 400 metre freestyle, 400 m freestyle at the 1908 Summer Olympics and in the Water polo at the 1912 Summer Olympics, water polo tournament at the 1912 Summer Olympics. Biography During World War I, Decoin served as a pilot. After that he worked as a sports journalist for ''L'Équipe, L'Auto'', ''L'Intransigeant'' and ''Paris-Soir''. Epinay Studios
The Epinay Studios are film production studios located in Epinay in northern Paris. It was a complex with two distinct and separate structures. The earliest was built in 1902 by Eclair Film. A second studio was controlled by the French subsidiary of the German company Tobis Film. Françoise Arnoul (born Françoise Annette Marie Mathilde Gautsch; 3 June 1931 – 20 July 2021) was a French actress who achieved popularity during the 1950s. Early life Born in Constantine, French Algeria, the daughter of stage actress Janine Henry and artillery general Charles Gautsch; she had two brothers. While her father continued military service in Morocco, the rest of the family moved to Paris, Provisional Government of the French Republic, in 1945. Albert Préjean (; 27 October 1894 – 1 November 1979) was a French actor, primarily in film. He served in World War I, and was decorated with the Croix de Guerre and the Legion of Honour. Torremolinos () is a municipality in Andalusia, southern Spain, west of Málaga. A poor fishing village before the growth in tourism began in the late 1950s, Torremolinos was the first of the Costa del Sol resorts to be developed and is still the most popular in the region.
